My Iraqi Saga

On Oct 1st, 2005 I got a letter in the mail. After 3 1/2 years out of the Army National Guard they called me back up. I had to report Oct. 30th. This is my journal from the day I reported. Hope you like it. If anyone would like to send me mail my address is: SPC Sanning, Stacy M.*next line*MNF-I STRATEFF(Press Desk)*next line*APO-AE 09316

An interview, some permalinks, and the abuse of newfound power

Ok, so I think I'm participating in an interview tonight for BBC Radio with SGT Trevor Snyder. I think this all came about because someone over at the Mudville Gazette linked to my Christmas blog. Which is actually pretty cool to me because when I first found out I was getting pulled back in the Army to go to Iraq I searched online for milboggers and the Mudville Gazette was my favorite site to visit because it has so many great links. Ok, let me just say, I feel very internet savvy now! SGT Snyder just showed me how to do the permalink thing and, I now I sound silly but, I'm really excited! Anyway, here's the interview with Greyhawk of the Mudville Gazette and Matt of BlackFive from last night. And here's the article announcing tonight's show.

Ok, I know I'm abusing the permalink thing so I'll stop now. I'll let you all know how the interview goes. Have a great night all!

I am at work right now and listening to the BBC broadcast. I hadn't read any of the milblogs before listening to the show. I only had one friend in Iraq but it was just before the war started. The milblogs are a great way to find out what's going on in the lives of the people serving there. Keep up the writing, you're doing a great job!

Hi Stacey! Now I'm the dork. I did something wrong with the first comment I wrote and lost it - so now I'm retyping!!!

Anyhow....Lisa called and said she was listening to you on the BBC. So I went on-line and was able to listen in as well. She called your mom and dad, they were on their way to KC with Rachel and they were also listening. It will be interesting to see how much traffic is generated on your blog due to the interview. You did a great job on the interveiw - your famous now!

FYI - Your siblings did pretty good at behaving themselves on Christmas Eve and Christmas. Was surprised Scott brought someone over Christmas night. She seemed really nice/smart - what was she doing with Scott???

We obviously were thinking of you when we baked our Christmas pies this year. Grandpa made 2 pecan pies and we made a blackberry cobbler. We had a whole pecan pie left and 1/2 the cobbler - Grandpa is mad you weren't there to eat 'em up. You know he hates leftovers!!!

I'm making my way back through all of your blog entries - great job! If you get really bored feel free to e-mail me at cara.l.sanning@boeing.com

Take Care!!
Love, Cara

You sounded great, very professional. You're right more of the positive stuff does need to come home and I'm glad that you guys are doing what you do. That's one of the things that I didn't like about when I was over there. The only thing that my family knew about Iraq was what CNN & FOX News put out. Keep it up we all support you guys and hope for you all to come home safe.

Great interview. I didn't know why you skipped out on Christmas Day football until I heard the host read that part of your blog. We only had 7 guys.

Anyhoo, see you around the office.

I just ran across your blog this morning and I want to say I am so impressed by you! My hubby is military, I'm prior service and a military brat. I just wanted to say how proud I am of you and all of the units over there. I am sure you each are greatly missed at home and you will all be home safe and sound soon. This is such a neat blog you have I think I am addicted! Been sitting here for 30 min reading it, which is alot for me with 2 little kids. Good luck, be safe and THANK YOU!!

Stacey -- Trevor's dad here. I listened to the BBC replay linked from Trevor's site. You all three sounded professional!

I read both Trevor's and your sites for different reasons. Trevor shares insights from a philosophical, quasi-political perspective, while yours reflects the viewpoint of a soldier, living life as it comes.

I really enjoyed reading of your excitement about being able to keep your cell phone while you are away from the U.S.! It sounds like you have a great family behind you.

Have a Happy and Blessed New Year.

Hay, this is great, I listen to you on BBC on line, you was great and so professional, you gave the people a good picture about what is going on there; I read your blog, I think that this day by day diary will be a great material for us the journalists to see how those great young soldiers are spending their days there, away from their families and friends, that is why I will keep on reading it.
Some of those blogs are so military, but the thing about your blog, it sounds more as if a civilian lives with the military, your mind still thinks as a civilian and this is what I like because there is a lot of things that will drew your attention which will not drew the attention of the military people because they get use to it.
Wish you the best always; I think you find a way to make this year, with the military in Iraq, a wonderful one.
Take care of your self; your family and your friends are waiting for you.
May God protect you, we are always proud of a people like you…
It is going to be an exited year in Iraq, I know about that because,

I was there…
